Huang Shuqin joined the Shanghai Film Studio in 1964. In 1979, he served as the assistant director in the film "Ah, Cradle" by Xie Jin. In 1981, he made his film debut "Contemporary People". In 2018, director Huang Shuqin's representative work "Painting Soul" became one of the works of SIFF's "4K Restoration" screening unit. It is worth mentioning that the original mainland film copy of "Painted Soul" was a mono sound effect version, and then the Shanghai Film Studio re-produced the stereo sound effect. As far as the development history of Shanghai film is concerned, "Painted Soul" is not only a masterpiece of a timeless feature film, but also a witness of technological innovation again and again.
