    The "Berlin Philharmonic in Shanghai" residency project has been postponed, see you in the summer of 2024!

    On July 2, the Berliner Philharmoniker announced that the orchestra was originally scheduled to depart for Shanghai after the open-air concert at the Woodlands Theater at the end of June 2022 for a 10-day residency program called "Berlin Philharmonic in Shanghai". Due to the impact of the epidemic, the orchestra had to cancel this trip.
    The Berliner Philharmoniker has reached an agreement with Chinese performance management company Wu's Planning to postpone the event until the summer of 2024.

    The residency activity was originally planned to be held in Shanghai every two years. The Berliner Philharmoniker hopes to establish a wider and closer connection with the Shanghai audience through such activities.

    In the autumn of 1979, under the leadership of Chief Conductor Karajan, the Berlin Philharmonic made its first tour in China, which was also one of the earliest performances by foreign orchestras in China. 26 years later, in 2005, under the leadership of chief conductor Simon Rattle, the Berlin Philharmonic visited China for the second time, and in 2011 and 2017, they toured China together again. The Berlin Philharmonic last toured China in 2018, led by guest conductor Gustavo Dudamel.
    In June 2015, with the votes of 123 musicians, Russian conductor Kirill Petrenko was elected as the newest music director of the orchestra. In 2018, Simon Rattle stepped down as the music director, and Kirill Petrenko took over as the newest head of the orchestra.
