Painted by the painter Wang Ximeng of the Northern Song Dynasty and now in the Palace Museum, the painting "A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains" in the painting has rolling peaks and mountains, vast rivers and mists, magnificent scenery, and is regarded as a giant masterpiece of green landscapes in the Song Dynasty. This work has also become a source of inspiration for stage art creators. There was a dance drama "Blue Green" created by the Oriental Song and Dance Troupe based on this, and the symphonic poem "A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains" was also created based on "A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains".
Under the advocacy of Yu Long, in 2021, 23 symphony orchestras across the country will jointly propose a commission to composer Zhao Lin. Zhao Lin and his father Zhao Jiping are both famous composers, and both father and son were born in a family of calligraphy and painting. Zhao Lin's grandfather Zhao Wangyun is one of the founders of the Chang'an School of Painting. Influenced by his family heritage, Zhao Lin has been interested in painting, especially traditional Chinese painting, since he was a child. This time he used music as a brush to create a symphonic poem "A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains", depicting the beautiful mountains and rivers in his heart. In his creation, the composer Zhao Lin turned this famous scroll into a musical poem. His creation is not limited to interpreting pictures with music, but focuses on reflecting the inner feelings of Chinese people when facing nature.
"Chinese traditional painting is permeated with strong Chinese aesthetic concepts, and these aesthetic concepts have many similarities with our music creation. Therefore, I have always wanted to use music to express Chinese painting, and this time I have the opportunity to show it through music. Wonderful traditional aesthetic concept. Our ancient paintings are more about the display of artistic conception, showing people's heart and spiritual realm through artistic conception, which is also the main theme of this work." Zhao Lin shared at the scene.
In Wang Ximeng's "A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains", the painter divides the scenery into six parts, each of which takes the mountain as the main object of expression. Relatively independent, but also interrelated, connected into one, to achieve the artistic effect of different scenes. It is reported that corresponding to the pictures of these six parts, the composer Zhao Lin used the structure of six movements in the symphonic poem "A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains". Different styles of music.
This work will begin with an orchestral movement "Flying Clouds, Chutian Thousands of Miles", which outlines a panoramic landscape painting scroll; the second movement "Shuiyun Rongyang" is followed by a solo instrument Sheng, writing water and writing. The wisdom of cloud and water is an important part of Chinese culture; the audience will hear the valley under the moon created by the pipa solo in the third movement "Moon Valley Pine Wind", and in the fourth movement "Thousand Stacks of Mighty" "The melodious melody of Erhu can feel the author's mind when facing the magnificent mountains and rivers; in the fifth movement, the composer uses the form of piano and orchestra to describe the mountains and mountains, thousands of horses circling, and the broad mind brought by the mountains and rivers. In the last movement, the composer used the form of soprano solo and bamboo flute solo, with Meng Haoran's "Looking at Mount Lu from the Pengli Lake" to draw an end to this journey of mountains and rivers that took place in the music.
In addition to the musical style full of national charm, the composer Zhao Lin also draws a lot from Chinese classical literature, and the titles of each movement are derived from the ancient famous lines in Song or Tang poems, so this work takes "symphonic poetry" as the theme.
After the creation of this work, it will be performed in 20 performances by different symphony orchestras in various places, and the first stop will be arranged in Shanghai.
