Whenever this time, I am always very happy and tangled. I am happy that another group of postgraduates have graduated with achievements in their studies, and went to their respective work and study positions to contribute their talents to the prosperity of the country; what is entangled is that you are really reluctant to leave the drug institute, and are also entangled in the plan I set five years ago. Rule - The theme of each year's graduate commencement address is one word. Fortunately, this year is my last speech in this team, and once again my wife has set a theme for me. On the evening of last year's graduation ceremony, I took the initiative to ask my wife, what will be the speech at next year's graduation ceremony? She suggested that I speak "letter". To be an honest person and not to deceive others is the basic bottom line of being a human being. But it is very difficult to maintain this basic bottom line. It is very difficult for a person to keep not cheating others all his life, but we must overcome all difficulties and maintain integrity.
American psychologist and writer Irene Casser once said: "Honesty is a symbol of strength. It shows a person's high self-esteem and inner sense of security and dignity." Very good interpretation, a person of integrity must be a person full of positive energy, and he must be full of energy and focus on everything he does. The possibility of success in his career is much higher than that of a person who does not speak of integrity. Therefore, honesty is a symbol of strength; an honest person must pay attention to self-respect, self-esteem and self-discipline, and will not make mistakes easily. Therefore, honesty will make people feel full of security and justice, and it will definitely make people feel happy.
Integrity is very important to scientific research, and now there is a special vocabulary called "scientific integrity". The connotation of scientific integrity is to "advocate scientific ethics, maintain scientific spirit, and carry forward a good style of study". The most common scientific integrity problems are data falsification, paper plagiarism and double publication. Once you make a mistake like this, your research career is over. As tutors, we do not want students to make such mistakes. Here, I give an example from my own experience.
In 1996, one of my graduate students wrote a paper and submitted it to J. Mol. Biol. Because I was not strict at the time, I didn't find that he copied a short paragraph in the introduction of the paper. Professor content published in Science papers. Although all the data are made by my graduate students, and other places are written by myself, plagiarism has already occurred. Sure enough, when the review comments came back, I saw the editor-in-chief's comment was "this paper is plagiarized and therefore cannot be published in our journal". I checked the paper carefully, found the plagiarized content, and immediately wrote sincere apology letters to the editor-in-chief and the professor in Germany. The German professor wrote back to me immediately, saying that he was one of the reviewers of this paper. Except for the plagiarized content, the results and overall writing of the paper were very good, and suggested that we revise and submit to Biophysical J., and finally this paper Published in Biophysical J. I also established a good cooperative relationship with this German professor, jointly trained graduate students, and co-published 2 papers. This matter is also of great significance to my postgraduate education. He posted the original manuscript of the first submission of this paper on his desk as a warning. He has done a great job and obtained his doctorate one year ahead of schedule. He went to Yale University in the United States to study for a doctorate in biostatistics again. He successfully completed his postdoctoral research, published papers in journals such as Nature, and is now a professor at a university in the United States. This incident also shows that if a mistake can be corrected in time, it is also a kind of integrity.
In particular, we pharmaceutical people must abide by "scientific integrity". Without scientific integrity, the preclinical and clinical data are untrue, and the products produced are fake drugs, which will harm the people and eventually ruin our own reputation. All the postgraduates who graduated this year have not made mistakes in scientific integrity. You are doing well. I am proud and proud of you. Japanese writers and religious experts have a famous saying: "Credit at work is the best wealth. Youth without credit accumulation must become a loser." I hope you will keep the word "integrity" in mind, maintain a moral bottom line in your future study or work, and continue to be a person of integrity.
Closely related to integrity is "reputation". The basic explanation of reputation is the reputation of honesty and trustworthiness. There are three corresponding words in English: Credit, Prestige, Reputation. As far as individuals are concerned, reputation represents a person's reputation and prestige; as far as society is concerned, reputation represents a production relationship and social relationship of mutual trust formed between commodity transactions, which is usually the so-called spirit of contract. Therefore, reputation plays an important role in social and economic development. Personal integrity is the foundation of reputation. If each of us is a person of integrity, the whole society will be a society that emphasizes credibility, and social productivity and production relations will be a relationship of harmonious development.
As scientific and technological workers, you will integrate into the society, and you will spend your whole life building your excellent reputation and shaping your honest and trustworthy character and charisma. Except for work and career and certain social activities, we spend most of our time with our lovers. Zhao Mengfu was a famous Jiangnan talent in the Yuan Dynasty. It is said that after Su Dongpo, he was an omnipotent all-rounder in poetry, calligraphy and painting. His regular script is called "Zhao Ti", which had a great influence on calligraphy in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. His wife, Dao Sheng, is also a gifted woman who is good at painting bamboo. She has written a masterpiece "Ink Bamboo Book", which will be of great benefit to future generations in learning bamboo painting. This couple is an enviable pair.
However, when Zhao Mengfu was fifty years old, he fell in love with a beautiful young woman and proposed to take him as a concubine. He was embarrassed to tell his wife Guan Shiming, so he wrote a poem to her to hint:
"I am a bachelor, and you are a wife. Don't you hear that Wang Xueshi has peach leaves and peach roots, and Su Xueshi has Chaoyun and Muyun. It is not too much for me to marry more Wu Ji and Yue women. You are already forty years old. Occupy Yutangchun."
After all, Guan Shi is a talented woman with culture and self-cultivation. Instead of crying, making trouble and hanging herself, she replied to Zhao Mengfu's poem "My Nong Ci":
"You and me, there are so many emotions, so many places, hot as fire. Take a piece of clay, knead a you, mold a me, break the two of us together, mix it with water, knead a you, mold a me, I have you in the mud, and you have me in the mud. I live in the same quilt as you, and die in the same coffin."
From then on, Zhao Mengfu never took concubines again, and he was in love with Guan Shi until old age.
"My Nong's Ci" uses Yu Xinjing to compare the relationship between husband and wife to mud, which is surprising. I present this poem to you, and hope that each of you graduates and your lover will "love each other with mud, and you will share with me".
One of the meanings of the interpretation of "Zhi" in "Shuowen Jiezi" is "the place of the heart", that is, the meaning of ambition. I believe that each of you has your own aspirations, some of you have "big ambitions" and some of you are "indifferent to your ambitions". Everyone has their own ambitions. I don't require each of you to have "big ambitions", but you must not "grow your ambitions". A person must always have a certain ambition. A person without ambition is like a ship sailing in the sea without a helmsman, and will eventually lose its way. You are about to go to work, some will stay in the institute or go to other institutes to do scientific research, some will study abroad, and more will work in companies. No matter what kind of work you are engaged in, you must start from the beginning, step by step, work steadily, be "inspirational", and further hone yourself in the work.
In ancient Chinese, "zhi" and "mole" have a common interpretation, which means imprint. You have studied in Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica for many years, and all the parks of the Institute of Materia Medica have left your footprints, and the laboratories of the Institute of Materia Medica have left behind your hard work and hard work... From then on, you and the Institute of Materia Medica have established a lifelong relationship Never cut a constant relationship. In 2008, by chance, I met a tea farmer named Hu Yingxiang in Zhijiang, Hunan. He manages a local wild camellia called sweet tea, whose scientific name is Mujiangyeke, which has anti-virus and diabetes effects. Due to the small amount of wild sweet tea and the inconvenient picking, Lao Hu came up with the idea of planting it. After 3 years of hard work, finally broke through the artificial planting technology. Therefore, he collected more than 3,000 mu of land from more than 500 farmers and planted it on a large scale. I asked Zhao Weimin and Li Jia from the Institute of Medicine to cooperate with him to conduct research on the separation of active ingredients and the screening of anti-diabetic active ingredients. This work is still ongoing. in progress. But here comes the problem. Unlike ordinary teas such as Longjing and Biluochun, sweet tea is only available in Zhijiang and cannot be sold nationwide. If you want to sell it nationwide, you must apply for "new food raw materials" from the Health and Family Planning Commission. I worked together with him, and with the help of experts from Kunming Institute of Botany and Central South University, after 6 years of hard work, I finally obtained the approval of new food raw materials from the Health and Family Planning Commission in early June this year. In order to establish a good relationship with the local government, my classmates and I donated money to Dashu'ao Middle School in Laohu's hometown to build a modern teaching building. We always understand qing narrowly, and some people understand qing as love or various personal feelings.
