"The Mistake by the River" is adapted from Yu Hua's pioneering masterpiece of the same name, starring Zhu Yilong and Zeng Meihuizi. Director Wei Shujun has a close relationship with Cannes. "Yanbian Youth" won the Special Mention Award in the Short Film Palme d'Or competition. "Wild Horses Splitting Their Manes" was shortlisted for the 73rd Cannes Film Festival (no award due to the epidemic); "Yong'an Town Stories" was shortlisted for Cannes Directors' Fortnight. This film is Wei Shujun's fourth campaign in Cannes.
