    Zhu Yilong's new film "The Mistake by the River" was shortlisted for "Un Certain Regard" in Cannes

    The 76th Cannes International Film Festival announced a new round of shortlisted films. Chinese director Wei Shujun's new film "The Mistake by the River" was shortlisted for the "Un Certain Regard" unit. The latest version of the poster was released immediately after the film.

    "The Mistake by the River" is adapted from Yu Hua's pioneering masterpiece of the same name, starring Zhu Yilong and Zeng Meihuizi. It tells the story of a paradoxical murder case involving multiple suspects. The criminal police captain Ma Zhe (played by Zhu Yilong) is constantly being played by the unspeakable truth and gradually falls into a trap.     This novel by Yu Hua is said to have been favored by Zhang Yimou as early as 1992. But when Zhang Yimou found Yu Hua and wanted to make this work of his, Yu Hua gave him the unpublished "To Live".

    Director Wei Shujun has a close relationship with Cannes. "Yanbian Youth" won the Special Mention Award in the Short Film Palme d'Or competition. "Wild Horses Splitting Their Manes" was shortlisted for the 73rd Cannes Film Festival (no award due to the epidemic); "Yong'an Town Stories" was shortlisted for Cannes Directors' Fortnight. This film is Wei Shujun's fourth campaign in Cannes.
