"One and Four" is a major literary and artistic creation project funded by the Shanghai Cultural Development Foundation. It is adapted from Jiang Yangcairang's novel of the same name. It is the first feature film of the post-95s director Jiumi Chenglie, who is also the son of the late director Wanma Caidan. .
A special commemorative video was released at the premiere: from 2005's "Quiet Mani Stone" to "Talow" to 2019's "Balloon", the cool mixed-cut scenes record the continuous progress of Tibetan films. Development and change, the ethereal soundtrack and the clean shots all cleanse the hearts of the audience. The sentiments of inheritance and tribute were overflowing, leaving the audience moved.
Talking about the interpretation of "X" in the premiere theme "1+4=X", director Kumi Nariye admitted that he hopes that this letter with infinite possibilities can represent a box office hit. Starring Kim Ba said that this is his first time starring in a genre film and he hopes it will be a big hit at the box office. Dajie Dingzeng expressed the hope that everyone can play the second or third time, "because it contains many themes."
Director Hou Keming said that "X" stands for brain-burning, "You need to watch this movie carefully to understand it." Sound director Li Danfeng said that the movie's highly immersive sound style and "close-to-face" lens language will add a new dimension to the movie. The audience was given an atmospheric movie-watching experience.
In the post-screening communication session, directors Li Ruijun and Zhang Chiyu also shared their inner feelings about the film’s meticulous suspense design, immersive audio-visual language, and sound and picture style. “Compared to the story and performance, I think it is more valuable. The harsh and rough tone style is very rare and precious in domestic films. I hope to see more Tibetan films with this temperament in the future."
Li Xun, a researcher and film critic at the China Film Archive, said that the movie "One and Four" reminded him of the film "One and Eight" that marked the emergence of the fifth generation of directors on the historical stage. "This very strong and tough image style has not been seen on the Chinese big screen for a long time, which surprised us. Moreover, the immersion of this film makes the 'embodiment' that is hotly discussed in the academic circles at present, that is, how to be in the world The real feelings of the body are reflected in the work, and there is a starting point for comparison. This is a very unique and cutting-edge attempt."
Wang Hongwei, a professor and director at the Beijing Film Academy, believes: “I think more audiences will watch this film not just because it is a Tibetan film or a Tibetan-language film, but more importantly, it is a new generation of China’s post-95s generation. The director should be the youngest director in the Chinese cinema genre. He has created a genre film with personal aesthetic orientation and film concepts, which is different from the routines of previous genre films. Its X reflects the young people who are interested in genre films. The director brings new possibilities.”
