Starting from November 24, major theaters across the country will enter the Lunar New Year movie schedule. There are more than 70 new Lunar New Year films this year, with the number of releases hitting a five-year high. Domestic new films account for 80%. The diverse genres give audiences more choices.

The reporter visited several theaters near the East Third Ring Road in Beijing. Every theater was crowded with audiences. The new films "The Third Squad" and "Detective Conan" which had just been released for a day or two became the first choice of the audience.

The person in charge of a cinema in Shuangjing area of Beijing said that the number of moviegoers here reached more than 2,000 on the 17th.

The reporter learned that many viewers are also looking forward to some new films that have not yet been released. For example, the pre-sale box office of "Twinkle Twinkle Star", which will be released on December 30, has exceeded 247 million yuan.

Yin Tengyu, senior analyst at Maoyan Research Institute: There are more than 70 films released during the Lunar New Year holiday. This year’s Lunar New Year holiday, the box office performance of domestic films is much better than that of imported films.

A movie data platform shows that as of 12 noon on December 17, this year’s Lunar New Year box office has reached 2.337 billion yuan (including pre-sale box office), the number of moviegoers has exceeded 57 million, and the total box office for the year has reached 52.757 billion yuan.

Rao Shuguang, President of the China Film Critics Society: With the successive releases of Lunar New Year films, I estimate that the total box office of the Chinese film market in 2023 is expected to hit 55 billion yuan.
