Artificial intelligence has boundless imagination, moves towards the new, and reaches far with quality. In 2024, the 26th Shanghai International Film Festival will continue to launch the Science Fiction Film Week, focusing on "Artificial Intelligence + Film", exploring the two-way empowerment of artificial intelligence and science fiction films, and inspiring filmmakers' deep thinking and future imagination.

This year's Science Fiction Film Week will host science fiction film theme screenings, the Science Fiction Film Week opening ceremony and Shanghai Science and Technology Film Metropolis press conference, the Golden Goblet Film Forum - Science Fiction Film Theme Forum, science fiction literature IP/project promotion, "Future Engine·Movie Heroes" night and other activities, bringing together domestic and foreign science fiction filmmakers, science fiction writers, scientists and other science fiction dreamers to create a light and shadow festival of the future.

The sci-fi movie week list focusing on the theme of artificial intelligence includes 10 excellent overseas works, including the epoch-making hall-level silent film sci-fi masterpiece "Metropolis", the top cyberpunk animation masterpieces "Ghost in the Shell" (4K restored version) and "Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence", the greatest space journey masterpiece in the history of the screen "2001: A Space Odyssey", and the experimental new work "Microcosmos" by a 91-year-old legendary filmmaker who uses AI technology to expand the boundaries of movies. There are both classic reviews and world premieres. This visual feast in the name of science fiction is definitely not to be missed.

The Science Fiction Film Week uses science fiction films as a link and the Science and Technology Film City as a platform. It will join hands with the CPC Songjiang District Committee and District Government of Shanghai to jointly hold offline activities such as the opening ceremony of the Science Fiction Film Week and the Shanghai Science and Technology Film City Conference to help further promote the "Shanghai Culture" brand. The Science Fiction Film Theme Forum of the Golden Goblet Film Forum will invite well-known filmmakers, scientists and science fiction writers to conduct in-depth exchanges around the theme of "Artificial Intelligence + Film, New Vision of Science Fiction and New Quality Productivity", and explore the opportunities and challenges that artificial intelligence brings to film creation and the film industry.

As one of the important parts of the Science Fiction Film Week, "Future Engines: Annual Outlook" will extend to the comprehensive promotion and display of science fiction literature IP and film and television projects, discover young science fiction writers, promote the science fiction literature works with the most potential for adaptation, promote and facilitate the transformation of excellent science fiction IP, and build a better communication platform for science fiction writers and filmmakers to work together.

The Science Fiction Film Week will also co-organize the "Future Engine·Movie Heroes Night" with ELLEMEN magazine, aiming to encourage and pay tribute to the film workers in front of and behind the scenes who have contributed to the development of science fiction films, highlight the exploratory spirit of Chinese filmmakers in science fiction films, and the dream-building spirit of building the film and television technology industry.

In addition to the theme screenings, other offline activities of the Science Fiction Film Week series of the Shanghai International Film Festival will be held on June 17 in Songjiang District, Shanghai, at the Shanghai Sheshan Shimao InterContinental Hotel. Guests with credentials of the Shanghai International Film Festival can participate in the Science Fiction Film Week related activities with their credentials. Other audiences can also log in to the official website of the film festival and select "Special Event Guests" through "Guest Registration" to complete the registration and make an appointment for the relevant event sessions. The seats at the event are limited and first come first served. Special sessions require an invitation letter.
