This year's Shanghai International Film Festival received nearly 3,000 entries and exhibitions from more than 100 countries and regions around the world. Among them, 50 works have been shortlisted for the selection of various competition units of this year’s Golden Goblet Award.
Director Song Taijia, who was the guest of honor, said before awarding the award, "The Golden Goblet Award represents a kind of purity. When I lift the Golden Goblet Award trophy, I am telling the world that I am a filmmaker who loves movies."
Three out of four Chinese-language films entered the competition
There are four Chinese-language films shortlisted for the main competition of this year’s Golden Goblet Awards, covering the middle generation of creative forces from the old, middle and young generations. In the end, three films, "The Hedgehog", "Sunshine Club" and "A Man and a Woman" won awards.
"The Hedgehog", which won the Best Screenplay Award, is Gu Changwei's return to serious issues after 12 years. It seems to have a "distant echo" with its famous masterpiece "Peacock" from the title to the theme. The film uses animals as images, people who are unwilling to accept fate but do not accept mediocrity. They are scarred and upright in their "battle" with the world.
After Gu Changwei came on stage, he joked that he was "working for Zheng Zhi" during the script stage. After receiving the trophy, Zheng Zhi said that he was "a novel writer who accidentally entered the film industry" and encouraged other writers to " Stick to it".
Huang Xiaoming won Best Actor for his breakthrough performance in the movie "Sunshine Club". When he heard his name, he showed a "confused" expression. His first words on stage were, "Shanghai is really a magical city, and many magical things have happened."
When Huang Xiaoming delivered his acceptance speech, his voice was trembling, "Being an actor is really a very happy thing. You can experience the lives of different characters. In his world, like Wu You, you are worry-free."
At the scene, Huang Xiaoming thanked the crew, family, and friends, and especially thanked his grandma who turns 95 today. "It's a pity that I can't go back to Qingdao today. Almost every year on this day, I will be by her side."
In "Sunshine Club", Wu You, played by Huang Xiaoming, has reached his forties, but his IQ and cognitive level are still at the level of a child. The jury praised in their comments: "In such a role that is easily labeled, there is an actor who interprets the unique charm of this character through his clumsy and bloated body and innocent eyes. In his eyes, we not only see A rare belief and strength, and at the same time seeing the warmest undertones of human nature.”
Huang Xiaoming
As an actor who has been known as "handsome" since he entered the industry, Huang Xiaoming gained more than 30 kilograms of weight this time in order to make the character look "unlike himself" in order to achieve a stronger "insensitivity". At the same time, this is also based on the commonality of a large number of cases in which the characters' IQs are still in childhood, and many people like to eat sweets and gain weight easily.
In the interview area backstage, Huang Xiaoming said that God gave him a "physique that makes it easy to gain weight and lose weight easily", and because he refused to admit defeat, he always "abused himself." Huang Xiaoming, who has gradually gained recognition for his acting skills over the years, said that this feeling seems to be "a reflex arc that lasted for several years, and it slowly paid off." Now he enjoys performing even more, "It doesn't matter what others think. When I reach 40 years old, the biggest feeling is that what I think and like is the most important."
After receiving this trophy, Huang Xiaoming said with emotion, "I have been in this industry for 26 years. My life has experienced many ups and downs, stumblings, helplessness, sadness, hesitation, and sometimes fear. When I cross the mountain, I found that no one was waiting for me. I crossed this mountain today and met my 18-year-old self, the one who had the original intention, was optimistic and was not afraid to move forward.”
At the same time, as the producer of "Sunshine Club", Huang Xiaoming revealed that he has actually "invested in many literary films, most of which were compensated. In the future, this one may also be compensated, but it is not important. What is important is that I am in the industry I like. , doing what I like and helping the people I like."
"A Man and a Woman" directed by Guan Hu won the best cinematography. The jury said, "The photographer used his lens to skillfully show the depression and loneliness of the characters. Through his unique camera skills, the buildings, cities and faces of the characters in Hong Kong left a deep impression on the jury."
The Kazakh film "Divorce", which won the Best Film at this year's Golden Goblet Award, tells the story of a marriage on the grasslands in the mid-1920s. The film combines comedy and tragedy, and smoothly describes the social reality and husband-wife relationship in crisis. The jury praised the film for its "unique innocence" that "makes both the film and its characters shine. This quality is rare in today's cinema."

This year's Shanghai International Film Festival, the animated film "The Color of You", which received overwhelming calls from movie fans for votes, won the Best Animation Award. Director Naoko Yamada said that the feeling of winning the award was "a lot of colors mixed together, turning into the color of a beam of light" and that "the brain was blank", so "the award was white."
"Aunt Hu's Garden" won the best documentary. The jury believed that "the movie-watching process made us enjoy it, showed us a world we had never known before, and enhanced our understanding of the world around us."
It is reported that the film took 9 years of filming. Producer Chen Lingzhen revealed that when she saw the material shot by the director, she was very moved by the spirit of the protagonist. "She was in poverty, but she was enthusiastic about helping people around her. The spirit of the protagonist is very worthwhile." I admire it." Director Pan Zhiqi revealed that the documentary will be released in art theaters in the future, and hopes that the documentary will be released to the audience in the future.
Filmmakers "Go Home"
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Asian Newcomer Unit. At the Golden Goblet Award ceremony, the awards of the two units were linked, which also added warmth and emotion to the entire award ceremony.
In the past 20 years, new forces in the Asian film industry have emerged here. This stage fuels the dreams of new filmmakers. They are the "new students" and they support the "new students"; they realize the transformation and growth of filmmakers and witness the endless development of a film festival into the future.
In order to celebrate this important milestone of 20 years of Asia News, the creative team innovatively designed the video story "Rebirth" and invited four filmmakers who have become familiar with the Asia News unit - Mainland Chinese director and actor Dong Chengpeng (Dapeng), Japanese director Shunji Iwai, Mainland Chinese director and Beijing Film Academy professor Cao Baoping, and Mainland Chinese actor Sun Yi took to the stage to talk about their fate with the Asia New Unit based on their own experiences, looking back on this film journey full of passion and dreams.
Dapeng starts from his stumbling start. Even though he walked on the red carpet of the Shanghai Film Festival with "Pancake Man" in 2015, he still felt unconfident about his identity as a "filmmaker". Three years later, he entered the Asian Newcomer category with "Sewing Machine Band". "Although I didn't win, I was shortlisted! At that moment, I felt that I could probably be regarded as a filmmaker." Dapeng, who has come to this stage in different identities , was particularly moved at this year's awards ceremony, "Today, I became a judge of Yaxin. I'm going home!"
Going home with Dapeng was Sun Yi, winner of the 2016 Asia New Awards for Best Actress. She said, "To this day, I seem to still be able to see myself on the podium."
Cao Baoping, who was also a newcomer on this stage 18 years ago, never imagined that "I would one day become the chairman of the jury for this award." As a veteran, Cao Baoping said, "Movies need opportunities and a stage. We were all newcomers once, so we are particularly willing to support those 'new' dreams. The next 20 years of Yaxin are even more worth looking forward to."
At the award ceremony, this year's judge Loved Hill said, "For me, this time in Shanghai will be an unforgettable chapter in my life. We have established a deep friendship between the judges and Chinese and foreign filmmakers. We will become lifelong friends. We are together with movies in Shanghai, and making movies our common language is the charm of this movie city.”
