    Global filmmakers look at Shanghai丨Makoto Shinkai: Shanghai is a city I like very much

    At a time when we are deeply studying and implementing Xi Jinping's cultural thoughts and practicing the important concept of a people's city, the short video series "Global Filmmakers Look at Shanghai" jointly produced by the Shanghai Municipal People's Government Information Office, Shanghai International Film and Television Festival Center and Wenhui Daily will be launched on June 23, showing Shanghai's efforts to accelerate the construction of a best practice base for Xi Jinping's cultural thoughts, strive to create a Shanghai cultural brand with global influence, enhance the city's cultural soft power, and promote the vivid practice of building a cultural power.

    The short video series "Global Filmmakers' View of Shanghai" invites judges of the 26th Shanghai International Film Festival, judges of the 29th Shanghai TV Festival, film market guests, film festival representatives, well-known directors, producers, foreign scholars, international students and international figures in the field of film education, etc., to jointly tell their views on Shanghai, encounter the city of film, and go to the appointment of light and shadow, so as to show and spread the charm and vitality of Shanghai to the world.

    The "spotlight" lights up hope. Shanghai, the birthplace of Chinese film, welcomes the world with firm cultural confidence and a more open and inclusive attitude. More than 3,700 works from 105 countries and regions on five continents participated in and exhibited at this year's Shanghai International Film Festival, and nearly 1,000 works from 57 countries and regions registered for this year's Shanghai TV Festival. The diverse shortlisted works and judges from various countries have made the international influence of the Shanghai International Film Festival and the Shanghai TV Festival grow day by day, and also allowed film and television people from all over the world to appreciate the open, innovative and inclusive urban character of Shanghai, a modern international metropolis.

    Some of the narrators in the series of short videos are visiting Shanghai for the first time, while others are old friends of Shanghai. They participate in reviews, dialogues, exchanges, experience sharing, and cooperation. They keep appointments with the city, appreciate the beauty of the city, and feel the warmth of the city. Beautiful, vibrant, open, diverse, enthusiastic, friendly, unique, coexisting history and modernity...     Talking about his first experience in Shanghai, Makoto Shinkai had many memories: "I came to Shanghai for the first time in 2013, and it really impressed me. Many high-rise buildings are very beautiful, and there are also many old apartments. The old street scenes are integrated with the new street scenes." Makoto Shinkai clearly remembers that the animated film "The Garden of Words", which he wrote and directed, was screened in a huge theater in Shanghai with more than 1,000 seats. The scene was packed. For him at that time, this was the biggest theater experience in his life. "It was my first time in this city, but everyone knew me. I was very moved.
