This romantic comedy, set and produced in Shanghai, continues the storytelling style of “Love Myth,” depicting the lives of ordinary people living in the city against the backdrop of urban Shanghai.
“Good Things” breaks 100 million box office
Three years after the release of “Love Myth,” several filming locations from the movie gained immense popularity, with long lines for the butterfly pastries on Tianyao Bridge Road, fruit shops on Yuyuan Road, milk tea shops on Gaolan Road, and bars frequented by the character Lao Wu becoming must-visit spots. Director Shao Yihui returns to Shanghai for this film, capturing 25 locations across the city, involving 51 uniquely styled sites, while the city wholeheartedly supports the film’s release.
This weekend, if you stroll through the streets of Shanghai, you might discover many elements of “Good Things.” With 15 bus routes and two Suzhou River cruise boats, the city serves as a backdrop where “good things” flow from Wutong District to the banks of the Huangpu River, spanning shopping malls, art galleries, markets, and cozy bars.

Many netizens have posted snapshots of “Good Things” buses on social media. The Shanghai Transportation Card recently launched a promotional design for the film “Good Things.” “Director Shao mentioned in an interview that Shanghai is a city you can explore on foot. We encourage everyone to travel sustainably, following the movie’s path, experiencing the city’s texture and the beauty of life,” a spokesperson noted.
At No. 18 on the Bund, you can encounter the “Security Guard Uncle.” The character played by Zhou Yema in “Good Things,” a high-end apartment security guard, was filmed here. Taking the elevator to the second floor, the exhibition currently featured is “Simplified: Shen Jingdong’s Parallel Worlds,” showcasing the artist’s whimsical and philosophical works that evoke a light, dreamy parallel universe.

Additionally, themed Suzhou River cruises and specially selected bus routes have been launched, linking Shanghai's historical culture with modern charm, showcasing this city—steeped in a century of cinematic grandeur—in a fresh light along the waterfront.

Due to the strong resonance between the filming locations and the essence of Shanghai, the Shanghai Film Bureau launched the “Good Love Shanghai—Travel with the Movie” series of activities alongside the release of the film. “Good” refers to “Good Things,” “Love” to “Love Myth,” so “Good Love Shanghai” has become a new exploration in creating consumption scenarios with the “Film +” concept in Shanghai.
Under the guidance of the Film Bureau, the creative team from SFC EVENTS, a subsidiary of Shanghai Film Group, has become the ground team for promoting “Good Things” through the “Film + City” concept, engaging in districts like Nanjing West Road, Huaihai Road, Wutong District, and Lujiazui. They use creative advertising and ticket-based initiatives to connect various partners, helping to spread the word about “Good Things” in Shanghai and fostering an atmosphere of a “film city.”
In its opening weekend, SFC EVENTS collaborated with film partners Maite Pictures, Alibaba Pictures, and Jiushi Cultural Media to launch the “Good Things” Shanghai check-in guide, with various merchants across the map offering special discounts to viewers. Locations marked in pink on the map like “Yuyin Music Park,” “Fuda Day-Night Store,” and “No. 18 on the Bund | Meet the Security Uncle from ‘Good Things’” feature scenes from the film, while locations marked in green such as “Breeze Auditorium,” “TX Huaihai,” and “Cinema Time Bookstore” contain unique film-themed decorations or elements, enriching the visitors’ experience.

As one of the film's producers, Jiushi Cultural Media gathered various cultural, commercial, travel, and transportation resources under Jiushi Group, including urban public transport, Suzhou River cruises, historic buildings along the Bund, and Jiushi Shanghai Commercial Theater. This collaboration provided robust support for the film's promotion, showcasing the allure of urban culture through intertwined waterfront and transportation experiences. The event coordinator expressed, "We hope to use ticket stubs as a medium to connect diverse resources in commerce, travel, culture, and sports, extending the ‘Film +’ consumption chain and co-creating ‘Good Things’ with the audience in Shanghai.”

According to reports, this check-in guide was launched with a limited edition of 5,000 copies during the opening weekend, available for pickup at various check-in points on the map. However, even if audiences do not get this physical map guide, they can still enjoy discounts with their “Good Things” tickets. Offers include buy-one-get-one-free drinks, free fries or ice cream, and discounts on entire purchases at certain establishments.
The event organizer mentioned that during the film's run, in addition to CITIC Pacific Plaza on Nanjing West Road, venues like Lady Huaihai, TX Huaihai, and Huaihai 755 will also provide various benefits to “Good Things” audiences across Shanghai. Furthermore, the organizers revealed that several merchants, initially not part of the collaboration, approached them after the November 9 premiere of the film. “They hadn't seen the movie but heard the director of ‘Love Myth’ shot a film in Shanghai and eagerly sought to collaborate. Everyone feels very optimistic about this,” they noted.

In its opening weekend, “Good Things” achieved over 30% of the screening share in Shanghai. The Shanghai Film Group hopes that innovative ground promotions will ultimately boost the film's box office performance while further enhancing the atmosphere of Shanghai as a “Film City.”
