"The Texture of a Poem: Sun Daolin's Film Art Memorial Exhibition"
Poetry presents the master's film life
December 28th is the 17th anniversary of Sun Daolin’s death. On this memorable day, “The Texture of a Poem—Sun Daolin’s Film Art Memorial Exhibition” was officially opened in his hometown of Jiashan County.
In the eyes of his friends, Sun Daolin is a poetic and picturesque person. Therefore, the exhibition uses poetry as an introduction and trees as metaphors. In the veins of Sun Daolin's tree of life, it picks up stories frame by frame, interprets scenes of light and shadow, and presents Sun Daolin's film life with poetic thematic expression. The exhibition area is about 500 square meters, with more than 200 exhibits (including physical objects), nearly half of which are exhibited for the first time. With the help of diversified exhibition forms, it not only deeply interprets Sun Daolin's film art achievements from an academic perspective, but also tells Sun Daolin's love, family affection, friendship and emotional connection with the audience with great emotional warmth, giving the exhibition a multi-dimensional appearance with both professional depth, emotional warmth and audience participation.
The exhibition uses the curatorial concept and narrative context of "full movie" to divide different thematic sections. The four major theme exhibition areas are named after the language of movies. Watching the exhibition is like watching a movie of Sun Daolin's life.
The first exhibition area is "Close-up of One Person's Film History", which condenses Sun Daolin's different identities in his clothing and temperament. He is an intellectual in a long gown, a revolutionary hero in a military uniform, and a gentleman in a white suit. The three sets of clothing are used as clues to give us an overview of Sun Daolin on and off the screen.
The second exhibition area is "Parallel Montage: Two People, One in the South and One in the North", which creates parallel lines of narrative time and space in the exhibition hall to tell the love story of Sun Daolin and Wang Wenjuan. The curatorial team also carefully created the "Forget to Return Home" art scene, using elements such as desks, family photos and plaques to stage the restoration of the study room in the couple's home, with light and shadow effects that are freehand and moving.
The third exhibition area is "Hello, Sun Daolin", showing Sun Daolin from the perspectives of his family, close friends, colleagues, old acquaintances and the audience, and conveying warmth and sincerity through multi-level and multi-form exhibition content. The "letter wall" and "tree hole" sound art installations in the exhibition area allow the audience to experience the beauty of reading and listening in the interaction, and understand Sun Daolin in a more three-dimensional and comprehensive way.
The fourth exhibition area is "Flashback Shining Like Light", which is an immersive screening and activity space. The door is shaped like a classical curtain, full of the unique charm of simplicity and poetry. Passing through the curtain, the audience can relive Sun Daolin's classic roles in front of the screen and let the stars of history shine again.
In line with the theme of "poetry", the entire exhibition has a high text content. In each exhibition hall, there are poems by Sun Daolin, as well as a large number of literature excerpts, including prose written by Sun Daolin, articles about the life experiences of Sun Daolin and Wang Wenjuan, and letters from visitors. These highly poetic and beautiful texts have also become text exhibits in the exhibition.
On that day, leaders of Jiashan County, Wang Jun, Party Secretary and Chairman of Shanghai Film Group, Sun Daolin's daughter Sun Qingyuan, Fan Yirong, Executive Director of Shanghai Film Museum, Cao Kefan, a famous host, and other leading guests attended the opening ceremony.
A freeze-frame tribute to the glorious journey of Shanghai Film Group
The theme exhibition "We·Good Movies" was planned by the curatorial team of the Shanghai Film Museum to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of Shanghai Film Museum. It was exhibited at Shanghai Film City SHO from November 23 to December 8. The audience responded extremely enthusiastically, and many said that the exhibition reminded them of the unforgettable time they watched these movies on the big screen.
After the closing of the exhibition, many viewers called the Shanghai Film Museum, hoping to see the exhibition again. In order to respond to the audience's eager expectations, the Shanghai Film Museum carried out secondary creation and design upgrades for the exhibition based on the space within the museum, and will meet the audience with a new look on December 28, the birthday of World Cinema.
"We·Good Movies" Theme Exhibition
The exhibition is named "We·Good Movies". "We" represents Shanghai Film Group, a progressive and united group that has gone through 75 years. Audiences often say "I grew up watching the works of Shanghai Film Group". The exhibition calls these movies loved by ordinary people "good movies". We hope to use such a name to express the emotional bond and humanistic warmth between Shanghai Film Group and the audience, and pay tribute to the 75th anniversary of Shanghai Film Group with people and works.
"We·Good Movies" selects the most representative classic works of Shanghai Film Group in the 75 years since its establishment, focusing on representative works with groundbreaking significance, winning national key awards, and having a great social and industry influence. It is divided into five content sections according to the years, namely "Shanghai Film Group Family Portrait", "Animation Picture", "Dubbing Recording", "Broad Vision" and "New Power", showing a total of 110 group photos and work photos of the crew, 80% of which are exhibited for the first time. The exhibition displays the brilliant achievements of Shanghai Film Group in feature films, art films, dubbing films, co-productions, etc. in all aspects through flexible and scattered picture displays, showing the ambition and confidence of Shanghai Film Group's fighters, and showing the writing of the country, intergenerational inheritance and innovation of Shanghai films.
Animation master Wan Laiming imitated the movements of Sun Wukong vividly for the crew; Xie Jin and Wu Yigong, who were in their prime, walked off the plane with the trophy they had just won from the Manila International Film Festival, full of high spirits; the main creators of "The Climbers" held the "highest altitude in history" closing ceremony at the Everest Base Camp at an altitude of more than 5,200 meters, leaving behind precious group photos... These rare photos are all eye-catching, and more exciting content is left for the audience to enjoy on site.
Create a wonderful movie life with professionalism
The two major exhibitions, “The Texture of a Poem - Sun Daolin's Film Art Memorial Exhibition” and “We: Good Movies”, opened simultaneously in Zhejiang and Shanghai, demonstrating the Shanghai Film Museum's industry-leading curatorial capabilities and consistent professional confidence. The museum's curatorial team transformed academic research results into exhibitions that audiences love through a variety of exhibition methods, and benefited the people through years of professional development.
After more than seven years of development, the "Mobile Museum" of the Shanghai Film Museum has gradually upgraded from exhibits lending and exhibition customization to the development layout of cultural formats, striving to make film culture break through the limitations of time, space and domain of traditional museums, so that movies can meet more cities, towns and villages, integrate into the urban and rural texture, and participate in urban renewal and rural revitalization. This "Mobile Museum" entered Jiashan County, the hometown of Sun Daolin, and it was the second time to come to the hometown of the film master after entering Xietang, the hometown of Xie Jin, to tailor a film-themed cultural exhibition for the people of his hometown, so that Shanghai Film's classics and precious collections can become exquisite exhibitions at the doorstep of the people, so that film culture can be truly integrated into the daily life of the local people, and realize the purpose of culture for the people.
Back at the Shanghai Film Museum, it has been adhering to academic research and professional cultivation for 11 years since its opening. Every year, the museum presents the latest academic research results to the audience in the form of filmmaker special exhibitions or theme special exhibitions, and has won the Exhibition Boutique Promotion Award selected by the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism eight times. In addition to solid academic research, the museum's curatorial team also boldly incorporates cutting-edge curatorial concepts and exhibition methods into the exhibition to ensure the exhibition's punch-in communication attributes, maintain communication and dialogue with the audience, and make the exhibition a part of the people's cultural life. In the future, the Shanghai Film Museum will continue to be at the forefront of the tide, deepen its professionalism, and realize that movies make people's lives better.
