On the morning of January 23rd local time, the list of nominees for the 97th Academy Awards was announced. As a result, the Spanish-language musical "Emilia Perez" directed by French director Jacques Audiard received the most nominations, 13 in total, and also broke the record for the most nominations for a non-English-language film, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, Best International Film, etc., and also took two seats in the Best Song nomination.

Following closely behind is "The Wild Bunch," which received 10 nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Supporting Actress. The 2024 Christmas hit "Wicked" also received 10 nominations, including Best Picture, Best Actress, and Best Supporting Actress. "The Conclave" received 8 nominations, but the film's director Edward Berg missed the Best Director. "Nobody" also received 8 nominations.
"Anora" received 6 nominations. "Some Kind of Material" was nominated for 5 awards, including a nomination for Best Director for Coralie Farria. "Dune 2" was also nominated for 5 awards, and except for the nomination for Best Picture, most of them were nominated for technical awards.

In addition, it is worth mentioning that Sebastian Stan, who missed out on the Screen Actors Guild Awards, was nominated for Best Actor for his role in The Apprentice, a biographical film about the current US President Trump. Life of Cats was nominated for Best International Film and Best Animated Feature Film, the first time a Latvian film has been nominated for an Oscar. The film will also be released in mainland China soon.
Although the wildfires in the Los Angeles area have not been completely extinguished, the time of the 97th Academy Awards has not changed and is still scheduled to be held at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles on March 2. However, just before the nominations were announced, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the organizer of the Oscars, sent a letter to its members stating that the theme of this year's awards ceremony is to pay tribute to Los Angeles, which is under the threat of wildfires.
“We will pay tribute to Los Angeles, the City of Dreams, and showcase its beauty, resilience, and its role as a beacon for filmmakers and creative visionaries for more than a century,” Academy CEO Bill Kramer and President Janet Young said in the letter. “At the same time, we will reflect on recent events and highlight the resilience, creativity, and optimism of our industry.”
In addition, this year's Oscars ceremony will cancel the performance segment for the Best Song nominees and instead focus on introducing the songwriters themselves.
