"Five Blessings" is a hit on Netflix, and "Punk Godmother" Patti Smith praises Wang Xingyue

The 32-episode costume love comedy "Five Blessings" has recently come to an end. While the show was launched on Mango TV in China on January 25, it was also broadcast on Netflix, the world's largest streaming platform, and has won the hearts of many overseas viewers, including rock artist Patti Smith, known as the "godmother of punk."

"Five Blessings" is produced by Huanyu Films and co-produced with Mango TV. Yu Zheng is the producer and Weekend is the screenwriter. Ni Hongjie, Lu Yuxiao, Wang Xingyue, Liang Yongqi, Ke Ying, Wu Xuanyi and others star in the play. The play is set in Bianjing (now Kaifeng) during the reign of Emperor Renzong of the Northern Song Dynasty. It tells the story of Lady Li from a wealthy family who is determined to find ideal husbands for her five precious daughters. Although there are many twists and turns and many jokes, everyone is happy in the end.

On the day when "Five Fortunes" came to an end, producer Yu Zheng posted a long article on his personal Weibo, saying: "The series has been ranked first on Yunhe for 11 days since its launch, and it ranks among the best costume dramas on the same platform. Although my personal comments affected the initial reputation of the series, as the plot develops and the actors perform brilliantly, the audience's feedback has gradually improved." However, judging from the current low Douban score of 5.8 (out of 10), the audience's feedback can hardly be called "positive." But this does not seem to have any impact on overseas audiences.

"Perfect Match" was broadcast on Netflix on January 25, with two episodes updated daily. There were many discussions on the American social news website Reddit. Some viewers said that the show was a Chinese costume version of Jane Austen's novels, especially the happy enemies of the third daughter Kang Ning (played by Lu Yuxiao) and Chai An (played by Wang Xingyue). Wang Xingyue's overseas social media accounts also gained a lot of followers due to the broadcast of "Perfect Match". Surprisingly, the name of rock artist Patti Smith was also among them.

Patti Smith, 78, made her debut in the 1970s. Her albums such as Horses, Radio Ethiopia and Easter directly influenced the development of punk and even rock music. In addition to music, her works also involve literature, poetry and visual art. Her works such as Just Kids, Poems and Songs, Waking Up from Yesterday and Time Train have been introduced and published. Although she is nearly 80 years old, she still hasn't given up the stage and will go to Japan for a performance in April.

Wang Xingyue said goodbye to his character in "Five Blessings" on social media.

Patti Smith praised Wang Xingyue as "an excellent actor" in a post on his social media.

As early as three weeks ago, Patti Smith followed Wang Xingyue on social media and left a message: "You are excellent." Apparently, she started watching two episodes of "Five Fortunes" every day when it first appeared on Netflix. After the show ended, she left another message: "A very good show. You are a great artist." Under her message, netizens who followed the show with her posted in disbelief: "I can't believe you also watched this show!" "Oh my God, it's really you."

In addition to "Five Blessings", costume dramas such as "Pearl Curtains and Jade Curtains", "The Golden Years", "The Blue Orchid", "Eternal Night Star River", and "National Beauty" have also been launched on Netflix. Next, Chinese dramas such as "Forget I Remember" starring Xie Yingxuan, Qin Han, and Huo Jianhua, "The Soul" starring Shu Qi, Li Xinjie, and Jia Jingwen, and "If I Had Never Seen the Sun" starring Zeng Jinghua, Li Mu, and Ma Zhixiang will be launched one after another this year.
