
On March 20, two new films were announced to be released during the May Day holiday. The Dumpling Queen starring Ma Li and the One and Only starring Zhang Jingyi are both based on real stories and are warm and inspiring.
Directed by Andrew Lau, written by Han Jianv, Zhang Mengchu and Deng Jieming, and starring Ma Li, the film "Dumpling Queen" will be released nationwide on April 30. Kara Hui, Zhu Yawen, Wong Cho Lam, Fiona Sit, Michael Tse, Pan Binlong, Yuen Fu-wah, Kong Mei-yi, Tai Bao, Cheung Tat-ming, Wang Jiayi and Lam Hoi-ling also star.
The film tells the story of Zang Jianhe (played by Ma Li) who accidentally stayed in Hong Kong in the early days of reform and opening up in the 1980s. She started her business with her family's northern dumplings. She brought her two daughters alone and lived on the streets of Hong Kong from being penniless. In order to survive, she could only sell dumplings at Wan Chai Pier. How will she bear the many difficulties of fate and counterattack her life step by step.

The film "Unique" also chose to be released today. The film is directed and written by Wang Mu, starring Zhang Jingyi, Chen Minghao, Xin Yunlai, Jiang Qinqin, Bai Ke, Zhang Yu, Ouyang Nana, Chen Haosen, and Zhang Yuzi. The film will be released nationwide on May 1.
The film is adapted from the French film "The Belliers", which tells the story of the only hearing daughter in a hearing-impaired family and her growth choices between family responsibilities and realizing her dreams.

In 2015, Luanne Emera, the heroine of "The Belliers", won the Best New Actress Award at the 40th French César Awards. The film has a Douban score of 8.4 points and 75,000 people have rated it.
Previously, the American film "Hearing Girl", which won multiple awards, was also remade from "The Baileys". In 2022, "Hearing Girl" won three awards at the 94th Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Adapted Screenplay. The film has a Douban score of 8.6 points, with 150,000 people rating it.
As of press time, six films have been scheduled for the May Day release.
