On October 3rd, the film "Safe Passage" announced its withdrawal from the National Day release schedule, with a new screening date yet to be determined. The day before, the animated film "Pipilu and Luxixi's 309 Dark Room" had submitted a request to withdraw from screening, deciding to pull out starting at midnight on October 4th.
"Safe Passage" is a powerful work by director Liu Jiangjiang, who once again challenges reality-based themes following "The Big Event in Life." The film is based on real events and tells the story of death row inmate Zheng Ligun (played by Xiao Yang), who encounters an earthquake while being transported to the execution site. Miraculously surviving, he joins a special rescue team formed by police officer Wei Chi Xiao (played by Ayunga). Faced with the disaster of the earthquake, their vastly different identities force them to stand at a crossroads of fate, and their choices will completely change each other's lives. The film premiered on September 30th and, as of press time, has grossed approximately 18 million yuan, ranking sixth in the box office chart for new releases during this year’s National Day holiday.
"Pipilu and Luxixi's 309 Dark Room," adapted from a novel by Zheng Yuanjie, is directed by Zheng Yuanjie's son, Zheng Yaqi. The film was released on October 1st, and as of now, it has grossed around 3 million yuan, placing it in the tenth position on the National Day box office chart for new films.
In the first three days leading up to the National Day holiday, the total box office for new films has exceeded 1.2 billion yuan, with the top three being "Volunteer Army: The Battle of Life and Death," "749 Bureau," and "Road of Fire."
