Li Lili was originally from Guangdong and was born on June 14, 1950, in Hong Kong. She studied at St. John's College. At the age of 12, she misrepresented her age to join the Shaw Brothers' Nanguo Experimental Theatre's acting training program, which required her to attend for four years before graduation due to her young age. In 1964, she signed with Shaw Brothers Film Company and in 1975, she joined ATV. In 1978, Li Lili transitioned to RTTV and later moved to TVB in 1989, announcing her retirement in January 2020.
"Forensic Heroes 4" served as Li Lili's farewell work. During an interview at the time, she briefly explained her retirement was due to being "older" and "feeling a bit uncomfortable." According to friends she had in her lifetime, Li Lili discovered a shadow in her lungs two years ago, but she did not pay it much attention until she had to be hospitalized a month ago due to discomfort, when it was revealed that cancer cells were present in both her lungs and brain.
