Comrade Chen Jingliang, former director of the China Film Archive, former director and party secretary of the China Film Art Research Center, passed away in Beijing on December 19, 2022 at the age of 76 due to medical treatment.

Chen Jingliang, a native of Chengdu, Sichuan, was born in April 1946 and joined the Communist Party of China in December 1979. In 1968, he graduated from the Department of French and German of Sichuan University of Foreign Languages, majoring in French. Trained in the army from November 1968 to December 1970. From December 1970 to October 1978, he worked as an interpreter in China Film Corporation. Since October 1978, he has successively served as an interpreter in the Information Office of the China Film Archive and deputy director of the Foreign Affairs Office. From May 1985 to September 1988, he served as the deputy director of the China Film Archive and the deputy secretary-general of the China Film Art Research Center. From September 1988, he served as the director of the China Film Archive and the director of the China Film Art Research Center. July 1994 Since January, he has concurrently served as secretary of the party committee. Retired in July 2006. He used to be the president and honorary president of the China Xia Yan Film and Literature Association, and a member of the National Film Review Committee.
Major film theory translations include "A New American Cinema", "Twenty-five Years of Contemplation", "Film Form and Shot Combination", "Italian Comedy", etc.; film script translations include "Long Farewell" , "The Last Winter", "Little Soldier", "The Adele Hugo Story", etc. He once edited Books of Chinese Film Studies in the Centenary, Collected Works of the International Forum on the 100th Anniversary of Chinese Film, and Selected Chinese Films in the Hundred Years.
