The major revolutionary historical drama "Northwest Years," consisting of 39 episodes, will premiere on November 5 at 8:00 PM on China Central Television's Comprehensive Channel (CCTV-1). This series revisits the fiery revolutionary past of Northwest China and continues the spiritual lineage of the Communist Party of China.
"Northwest Years" adheres to the Party's history and artistically recreates the heroic revolutionary era in the northwest region of our country. It tells the story of older proletarian revolutionaries like Xi Zhongxun, who, with great ambition and unshakeable faith, fought bravely and explored diligently for the Party's cause and the people's interests. From a small spark to a great fire spreading across the northwest, from safeguarding the last remaining revolutionary base to toppling the Chiang Kai-shek regime, the drama depicts the commitment to the truth and reliance on the masses in establishing a new China.
Comrade Xi Zhongxun is an exemplary member of the Communist Party of China, a great communist warrior, and an outstanding proletarian revolutionary. He was an exceptional leader in political work for our Party and Army, as well as one of the main founders and leaders of the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia revolutionary base. The entire series focuses on Xi Zhongxun’s extraordinary experiences and achievements in the northwest region, including mobilizing the masses to establish revolutionary bases, guarding the north and south gates of the border area, collaborating with Peng Dehuai to protect the Party Central Committee, correcting land reform issues, and addressing national and religious problems during his governance in Northwest China, along with the development of the region's economy and culture. It illustrates Xi Zhongxun’s journey from a poor farmer's son to a responsible leader in charge of the region.
The Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia revolutionary old area holds a very important and special position in the history of the Communist Party of China. As a red revolutionary base established during the Land Revolution War, it served as the landing point for the Central Committee and the Red Army's Long March, as well as the starting point for the Party leading the people and army to the front lines of the Anti-Japanese War and towards the founding of New China. This drama is the first epic work to offer a panoramic view of the magnificent history of the northwest revolution, painting a comprehensive picture of the revolutionary heroes from that region, including Liu Zhidan, Xie Zichang, Xi Zhongxun, Zhang Zongxun, Wang Taiji, Wang Shitai, and Qixin, among many others who fought on the northwest front. The series vividly portrays important figures like Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Liu Shaoqi, Zhu De, Ren Bishi, as well as military leaders such as Peng Dehuai, He Long, and Wang Zhen, alongside a plethora of lively depictions of the local masses. It showcases grand war scenes while poetically blending historical truth with artistic representation, filling the creative gap in significant revolutionary-themed film and television works related to the northwest revolution and the history of the Shaanxi-Gansu base.
On November 5, tune in to CCTV-1 during prime time! Don’t miss it!
