"To survive, you must first wipe your tears, and there will be a sky ahead", the familiar melody sounded, instantly awakening the memories that have been covered by the years, taking you back to "A Shanghai Family" in the 1920s.

"A Shanghai Family" is directed by Li Li, written by Huang Yun, and starred by Li Ling, Cao Cuifen, and Xie Yuan. It tells an inspirational story about a family in the shantytowns of old Shanghai, from the war-torn Republic of China period to the eve of the liberation of new Shanghai, and their efforts to move towards the light. When the drama was broadcast in 1991, it attracted crowds of people to watch. It brought the daily life of people living in the alleys to the screen, and the texture of the city was real and tangible.
True feelings create strong strength
The characters in "Shanghai Family" are all brilliant and full of flesh and blood.

The heroine, Shen Ruonan, played by Li Ling, is not from Shanghai, but she grew up in Shanghai as a child and has more or less the unique "genes" of Shanghai girls. The character Ruonan she played was smart, kind, and tenacious. She grew from a poor girl to a successful woman and was indomitable in the face of life's hardships. She was a typical representative of the struggle of women in old Shanghai. Even the character image of the "Ruonan head" in the play became a popular fashion trend after the TV series was broadcast.

He Wei plays the dark-skinned brother Zhao Zheng, who grew up in a shack and has a brother-sister relationship with Ruonan. He is generous, righteous, and loyal, adding a touch of passion and warmth to the drama.

Brother Xiang, played by Xie Yuan, is a typical "honest man". He is kind, hardworking, and silently accompanies Ruonan. His love is simple and deep. Although he is not good at words, he always lends a helping hand when Ruonan needs it most.

Sun Qixin (playing He Zhiwei)

Xu Xing (playing Yindi)

Cao Cuifen (playing Qiaozhen)

Wu Mian (playing Jin Guihua)
They injected their true feelings into their characters, making them classics in our memories. In "Shanghai Family", in addition to Li Ling, Xie Yuan, and He Wei, there are many familiar faces such as Sun Qixin (playing He Zhiwei), Cao Cuifen (playing Qiaozhen), Wu Mian (playing Jin Guihua), and Xu Xing (playing Yindi). This lineup and acting skills are worth looking forward to!
The fireworks of the times pursue the dream
"A Shanghai Family" is not only a story about the struggles of small people in that era, but also a "Ukiyo-e" of old Shanghai, showing the changing circumstances of that special era. In that turbulent era, the small tailor shop became Ruonan's safe haven and also started her eventful life. From being a small tailor at the beginning to becoming a big boss who owned his own factory later, Ruonan took every step with difficulty and determination. She witnessed the coming and going of trams on the streets of Shanghai, the rise and fall of department stores, the various lifestyles of people from different classes, and the changes of the times.
